<p class=MsoNormal>Hi All -<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>I’m sure the recent heat has not been lost on you, and
it looks like we’re in for a few more very hot days in the
Northeast. While I hope you are doing your best to stay near the air
conditioner or swimming hole, with the increased heat so increases the need for
water in our chestnut orchards. This is especially true of new plantings
and recently inoculated orchards. You all know your own sites better than
anyone and I trust will know if/when it is time to water the orchard(s) you
manage. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>If it is time to water your orchard, please remember to do
your best to keep cool while working outside. Aim for early in the day or
late in the evening, when the temps are a little cooler and the sun less
direct. If it’s a big job that will keep you outside for a long
time, pace yourself and don’t hesitate to ask for help or take breaks. And
don’t forget to stay hydrated. There are some great tips for
staying cool at the weather channel’s website: <a

<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>I know this is all common sense stuff, but it’s good
to remember that heat like this, especially when it was relatively cool at the
beginning of last week, is tough on the body.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Hope you all had a great holiday weekend and are finding
ways to beat the heat! <o:p></o:p></p>
