Mike,

The UMass diagnosis is suspect, although it sounds American from the
location. Better to send in another leaf sample for confirmation.

We had one here on the side of the road I didn't notice for about 7
years, until it caught the corner of my eye one day. When I was a
grad student, I regularly walked under one without noticing because I
was attuned to ones with leaves in the understory; that ones leaves
were in the overstory.
