Kendra,

Just sent the following email to Mr. Meiklejohn.  I saw the note, but  
didn't know who sent the sample.

Dear Mr. Meiklejohn,

Unfortunately, the tree appears to be a pure Chinese chestnut tree,  
as indicated by:

the shiny tops on ovate leaves;
the fairly small teeth, not forward pointing;
the somewhat light-colored twig;
the short (< 0.5 mm) hairs at right angles to the abaxial midrib;
the long-stalked, capitate glandular hairs on the abaxial midrib;
the small, cigar shaped glandular hairs on the abaxial lamina.

There are quite a few chestnut trees on the mountains, such as above  
Salisbury, in that part of CT.
