Hi Lin,
Thanks for replying. We had heard that Gary was doing extensive traveling for work, so we have missed him at our meetings.
My concern is if the deer are eating the tops of the trees, not allowing them to get taller.
Also Fertilizing the orchard is important, has the been done this year?
I know Rufin has been down to the orchard this year, perhaps he has more info.
If not I have a fertilizer injector  that can connect to the irrigation system
Give my best to Gary,
-Jamie

Hi Jamie and fellow Chestnutters,

This is Lin - Gary's wife.  I just checked Gary's email and found this notice.  I just want to let you al know he has been doing extensive traveling for his company since last September and when the economy took a nose dive.    Because of this traveling he does not always get to check his email so we apologize for the lastness of this letter.  He is gone until August 14th and most likely he may only be home for 2 weeks and gone again! We are not sure of his next schedule! :(

I check his orchard the other day and his trees are huge(for a small person like me!!!).  I did notice that some of the trees were being eaten by the deer.  Should I be doing something for that?  Let me know or if someone could help me that would be great too.

Thanks and sorry about not getting back to you earlier.

Lin

--------------------------------------------------------------
I plan to be at the rest area  on Rt. 2 west just before the  I-190 exit at 8:30 AM.
Who want ride out with me?
I can take 4  besides myself.
 - Jamie

Directions to Brian Clark's Farm:
Proceed to Greenfield on Rt. 2 or I91 (Rt. 2 west merges with I91 north of Greenfield)
Take I91 exit 26 for Rt. 2 West (Mohawk Trail)
Go 10 miles to Rt. 112 South (right turn around a clover leaf)
Follow 112 south for 6 miles to Apple Valley Rd. (right turn about 1/4 mile after Ashfield town line)
Follow hardtop road 1 mile to large cinderblock and red steel apple storage building
Right on to Clark Rd. immediately after the storage (up a steep hill)
half way up the hill, turn right onto gravel driveway to white, newer looking house.

>From South or East or West via Mass Pike:
go North on I91 to exit 19 (Northampton, Rt 9 exit)
go straight at end of ramp (across Rt. 9) onto Damon Rd.
Follow Damon Rd. (becomes Bridge Rd.) 3.3 miles (straight through several lights/intersections)
Right at T intersection with Rt. 9 (west)
Follow Rt. 9 west for 10.3 miles
Right onto 112 North (just past Goshen center)
Follow 112 North for 8 miles to Apple Valley Rd.
Sharp left (switch back) onto Apple Valley Rd.
Follow hardtop road 1 mile to large cinderblock and red steel apple storage building
Right on to Clark Rd. immediately after the storage (up a steep hill)
half way up the hill, turn right onto gravel driveway to white, newer looking house.

A word of warning to anyone using GPS navigation devices - coming from the south on Rt 112, they will try to direct you to turn left onto Hawley Rd. (big mistake) or Smith Rd. (poor road, heavy forest, no satellite signals) before reaching Apple Valley Rd.  Ignore it and follow the directions above.  Also, they will usually tell you to take I91 exit 18 which will take you through the center of Northampton.  The directions above are faster.

Additionally, there is no cell phone signal in most of Ashfield -----------------------------------------------------------------------
thanks
-Jamie Donalds
